The new SD range of membrane dryers

Atlas Copco introduces the latest membrane drying technology, designed specifically for reliable operation in harsh environments and demanding situations where space is limited

In addition to its wide range of conventional refrigerant and desiccant dryer units, Atlas Copco has now introduced the latest membrane drying technology designed specifically for reliable operation in harsh environments and demanding situations where space is limited. Incorporating advanced water separation fibre technology, the compact SD unit is designed for the minimum water vapour purge air requirement and flow resistance, resulting in the lowest pressure drop. Small enough to be mounted in a variety of configurations, the dryer operates quietly under a wide range of inlet and ambient conditions.

The standard product range is available in a choice of 32C or 55C dew point suppression, and flow rates ranging from 3 l/s to 32 l/s.

Operating principle.

The vibration proof and corrosion resistant construction houses a membrane bed that consists of thousands of hollow fibres coated on the inside.

Wet compressed air enters the interior of the hollow fibres, from one end of the dryer.

The membrane coating is highly selective and only allows water molecules to pass through, not air.

The water vapour is thus collected in the space between the fibres.

A small amount of dry air at the dryer outlet is directed to the space between the fibres, where it expands.

This purge air flushes out the water vapour to ambient through the openings in the assembly.

Flexible and easy to install.

Each SD membrane dryer supplied by Atlas Copco is complete with a full set of components and connection pieces to allow easy and versatile installation.

A purge block that controls the purge air is fitted to the dryer and two pre-filters are mounted at the inlet of the dryer to ensure optimal inlet air quality.

Inlet and outlet caps are supplied to allow the inlet filter to be mounted on the dryer in several ways and in two orientations, either horizontally or vertically, depending on the needs of the operator.

The compact design of the SD Membrane Dryer range enables units to be mounted in confined spaces and to be integrated into a variety of OEM assemblies.
