Covrad Heat Transfer has ordered Tranter PHE plate heat exchangers for power generation applications, the latest of a long line of orders for Tranter PHE equipment. The long running partnership is a testament not only to the comprehensive nature of the Tranter product range - given the Covrad activities in the power generation, rail traction and off-highway/commercial vehicle fields - but also to the considerable synergy that exists between the two companies forming a true partnership. Plate heat exchangers offer a number of advantages over traditional shell and tube systems, but the whole Tranter approach is a problem-solving one.
In the latest contract, with the power generation set located in the basement and radiators at rooftop level, it was necessary to isolate the two and eliminate the static head, a criterion which Tranter welded plate exchangers were ideally placed to satisfy.
The number of applications for PHEs is considerable and increasing in number with each passing year.
One of the most recent is combined heat and power, but it is worth listing some of the others.
PHEs are easily cleaned, which means in cooling applications that they can be used to effectively isolate parts of the system and protect equipment from contaminants as well increase efficiency and/or performance.
PHE units are also extremely compact and in heating applications can perform a variety of heat recovery and isolation duties, as well as safely heating potable water, if manufactured of stainless steel.
